Fires at Dover Court Cases Executions Workhouse Streets of Dover Rambles Harold Rosher Links

Begging in the Streets.

Rachel Roberts, an incongruous looking heap of shreds and patches, was placed at the bar by P.C. Barton who had found her in King Street on the preceding day begging of the passers by. Story the defendant had, none to tell. She faintly admitted however that she had seen the interior of Dover Gaol a few months ago for the same offence. Superintendent Coram said that the defendant was one of the most troublesome vagrants. She was anything but destitute, when brought to the Station House 2s 3d being found upon her on her being searched. She was committed to the House of Correction for one month with hard labour.
